Pasta Evangelists in partnership with Clarence Court.

Hello and welcome back

Today's blog features

Pasta Evangelists
In partnership with
Clarence Court

Tonight's dinner is
Asparagus Raviolini with a Quail's Egg Garnish, Lemon Butter, Pangrattato & Vegetarian Italian Cheese.
I'm a huge lover of pasta, mum brought us up to eat it well, eat it right and not leave a smidgen.

I was looking forward to receiving my parcel which turned up on a gloomy Yorkshire afternoon and went to open to box to see some stunning Raviolini.
Beautiful aesthetically and flavourfully, dripping lightly in the lemon butter and topped with a gentle warm quails yoke.

Sumptuously delicate, mouthwateringly divine and most of all it made this Yorkshire girl feel very very relaxed and comforted as all good pasta should!

THE BOTANIST ISLAY DRY GIN

Belgravia Flower Show 2019 is proud to announce the launch of The Botanist Garden at Boisdale of Belgravia on Monday 20th May and sponsored by The Botanist Islay Dry Gin to be officially opened by televison and media personality Georgia Toffolo.

Since 1913 every May London has celebrated the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. In recent years, coinciding with the nearby Chelsea Flower Show, Belgravia in Bloom also takes place in shops, bars and restaurants around Belgravia and this year the Scottish restaurant Boisdale will be hosting its own flower spectacular expertly staged by notable florist Lucy Vail, best known for her bold use of colour and theatrical floral ceilings.

The Botanist Garden will be a celebration of The Botanist Islay Dry Gin and Boisdale of Belgravia’s Scottish heritage portrayed through a brand new foraged gin cocktail menu and the restaurant’s floral installation of natural foliage and florals inspired by the 22 hand foraged botanicals from the Isle of Islay, the southernmost of the Inner Hebrides islands and home of The Botanist.

Wild Highland foliage, fragrant florals, blooms and roses will adorn The Botanist Garden to create a botanical masterclass and fill the restaurant with fresh spring scents, whilst guests enjoy a selection of perfectly served foraged gin cocktails devised in collaboration with The Botanist throughout the months of May and June alongside the finest British produce.

The Botanist Garden will see excitement levels peak during the week of the Chelsea Flower Show with national press, the Boisdale friends and community of writers, thespians, rock stars and business leaders enjoying foraged gin cocktails and Scottish canapes to the sounds of live jazz, courtesy of a trio of London’s finest musicians at the launch party on Monday 20th May.

Stephen Busby, Boisdale of Belgravia’s GM comments, “Flowers genuinely create happiness. In every culture, in every country, and in every generation, they have always lifted our mood, so I’m thrilled to be hosting the Belgravia Flower Show in my restaurant. When it comes to enjoying life in London it doesn’t get much better than decadent interiors filled with flowers, excellent food, superb drinks (being British gin is my particular favourite!) and great live music for which we are famous.”

Boisdale, originating from the Outer Hebrides, is a critically acclaimed great British restaurant, providing an eclectic environment celebrating the very best of Britain’s heritage through food, drink and music. With sites in Belgravia, Mayfair, Canary Wharf and Bishopsgate, the restaurants have a unique atmosphere in which to enjoy one of the world’s leading whisky collections and exceptional wine list including own bottled wine and vintage champagnes. Also retailing some of the world’s best hand-rolled Cuban and vintage cigars, each Boisdale restaurant features a bespoke humidor, with Boisdale Belgravia, Boisdale of Mayfair and Canary Wharf also offering discreet cigar terraces.

About The Botanist Islay Dry Gin:
Small batch and hand-crafted, this fascinating, delicious gin uses nine classic gin botanicals, with the addition of 22 others foraged from the windswept heather hills, peat bogs and Atlantic shores of the island. Blended with skill, these elements are beautifully balanced in this fragrant and floral gin. Conceived, distilled & hand-crafted on the Island of Islay. The Botanist is a gin of layered complexity. A progressive exploration of the botanical heritage of our Isle of Islay. 22 hand-foraged local botanicals delicately augment nine berries, barks, seeds and peels during an achingly slow distillation. This first and only Islay dry gin is a rare expression of the heart and soul of The Botanist’s remote Scottish island home.

Australian VR tech features at the Venice Biennale

A massive visual art installation incorporating virtual reality technology from South Australia will be exhibited as an official Collateral Event at the 2019 Venice Biennale.

Adelaide-based VR production business Jumpgate VR collaborated with artists James Darling and Lesley Forwood to bring their immersive work Living Rocks: a Fragment of the Universe to life for the prestigious event.
Jumpgate VR Managing Director Anton Andreacchio said the art project provides a platform for the company to further develop their technology for a range of applications in the creative industry.
“We supported this first and foremost because it enabled us to step into a place where we would never have been able to go,” Andreacchio said.
“This is a chance to be at the forefront of tech, not pixels, but on the conceptualisation of what tech is and how humans can interact with the technology.”
“Quite a lot of the time we put the technological cart before the horse of human experience and to have [Darling and Forwood] at the helm of this essentially asking questions that weren’t limited by their understanding of the tech, it was just what they believed and what they envisaged, then it was up to us to push our boundaries to figure out how to rise to the challenge.”
The installation in the Magazzini del Sale depicts an origin story of life on earth. Its centrepiece is thrombolites sculptures hand-made from mallee roots by Darling and Forwood. Thrombolites are microbial structures that were the only living organisms on earth for three billion years and created the beginnings of the planet’s atmosphere. The thrombolites used in Living Rocks are based on those found at Lake Hawdon in South Australia’s south.
Andreacchio said the 3D VR projections, which play on a 20-minute loop, are designed to compliment the sculptures to deliver an immersive experience for audiences.
“Our primary role was the development of the moving image, so interpreting James and Lesley’s vision, but not just creating it as a once off [and] giving them the time and space to explore things has very much been a conversation on what’s possible as the project evolved,” Andreacchio said.
“This has included construction of what the world used to look like in 3D which has been a big challenge considering we’re rendering this in 26K, whereas films are typically between 2K and 4K.”
“We went out to Lake Hawdon and used photogrammetry to reconstruct the thrombolites that were out there, taking photos from multiple directions then reconstruct the 3D geometry as well as work closely with the scientists that James and Lesley were consulting with to get their feedback on the work as well.”
As part of the showcase, the thrombolites slowly emerge from a shallow 30-metre-long pool filled with water that is surrounded by an expansive ...

#SilenceIsNotConsent - actor's LA experience prompts film and campaign

  • UK short film Spaghetti uses humour to tackle consent in the aftermath of #MeToo movement.
  • Inspired by actress's personal experience.
  • Shot by all-female crew in London earlier this year.
  • Launch screening, Q&A and champagne reception at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, 9 May.
A new short film about consent aims to empower men and women, and spark a wider conversation about the issue.
Dark comedy Spaghetti is written by Mary McBain, who stars in the film alongside Dan Burman. McBain was inspired to shoot the film after two uncomfortable experiences while working in Los Angeles in recent years.

She says: "I wanted to take a negative and scary situation that happened to me, and turn it into something positive that will ultimately make a difference. Just because a woman becomes silent and goes along with something doesn't mean she's consenting. It's up to both people in that situation - one to speak up, and the other to check in.

"#MeToo has done so much to create essential change, but we can do more to protect people at an earlier stage. This film isn't about finger pointing, it's about education and making sure everyone - men and women - feel safe and comfortable."

"We really want to start a conversation - our film will inspire people to spread the message that #SilenceIsNotConsent."

The film was shot by 20 female filmmakers in Wimbledon in February, with funding by MMcB Productions.
  • Press are invited to screening, Q&A and champagne/light bite reception at BAFTA (195 Piccadilly) on May 9, 7pm. To RSVP or for interview opportunities contact spaghettithefilm@gmail.com and 07444097104
